The best time to visit Bali and Lombok, month by month
Updated · 4 min read · By the Tour Pulau team

In short: The best time to visit Bali and Lombok is the dry season, from about April to October, with sunny days and lower humidity. July, August and the Christmas–New Year weeks are the busiest and most expensive. The rainy season (about November to March) brings short, heavy showers, greener scenery and fewer crowds.
Bali and Lombok are warm all year, around 27–32°C on the coast. What changes is the rain — and the crowds.
| Months | Weather | Crowds |
|---|---|---|
| April – June | Dry, sunny, green after the rains | Moderate — a sweet spot |
| July – August | Dry, slightly cooler evenings | Busiest, book early |
| September – October | Dry and warm | Moderate — another sweet spot |
| November – March | Rainy season, showers often in the afternoon | Quieter, except Christmas and New Year |
Dates to know
- Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence, usually falls in March: the whole island, including the airport, stops for 24 hours
- Mount Rinjani in Lombok closes to trekkers in the rainy months, usually from January to the end of March (2026 reopening news (opens in a new tab))
- School holidays in Australia and Europe make July, August and late December the busiest times
- Fast boats to the Gili Islands sell out in peak season — book a few days ahead
Is the rainy season worth it?
Often, yes. Rain usually comes in short, heavy bursts, rice fields are at their greenest and hotels are cheaper. Plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning and keep afternoons flexible.
Whenever you come, sort out your visa, tourist levy and arrival card before you fly, and check Bali or Lombok if you're still choosing.
